March Reading Madness

Dear Parents and/or Guardian(s),

We are excited to announce Griebling/Memorial’s first “March Reading Madness” competition. The purpose of this competition is to encourage independent reading at home. The competition is voluntary and open to all students who attend Griebling and Memorial in grades K-5.

How to participate:

  1. Read a book or a chapter of a book at home. (nonreaders can be read to by a parent or guardian)
  2. Choose a basketball prompt to complete at home based on the book. (parents may assist with 1-2 sentence answer if needed)
  3. Cut out and bring completed basketball prompt to school and turn it into your teacher to be forwarded to the main office.

Each homeroom’s basketballs will be displayed and tallied.   The homeroom with the most responses per grade level will win a class party. The overall winner for each school will win a trophy to display for the remainder of the year!

  • This competition is completely voluntary.
  • The competition begins on Monday, February 29th.
  • All basketballs must be received by Monday, April 4th.
  • Students can enter an unlimited amount of basketballs as long as they are complete.
  • Additional basketballs can be accessed through the school website, in your child’s classroom, in the main office or at this link http://www.howell.k12.nj.us/files/news/1212/2016-griebling-march-reading-madness.pdf

We hope that you and your child choose to participate in this friendly competition. If you have any questions please contact our literacy coach, Erin Lowman at [email protected].
